Dean Eddy
MA, LPC-S, LSOTP-S (#60595 / #99046)
Managing Owner and Therapist

Welcome to San Gabriel Counseling Group! I have worked in the counseling profession since 2004. I began my career in 1991employed as a felony pre-trial bond supervision officer in Williamson County and quickly discovered my desire to help individuals who were generally at a point in their life where their next choices were either likely to contribute to adding to their troubles within the criminal justice system or would help them overcome some poor choices which caused them to be at this crossroads.  Either path having long term impacts on their life as well as the lives of their families and those who care about them.  I found this work to be rewarding and recognized the great impact on individuals, families, and the community.  I quickly began my journey to become trained as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and later a Licensed Sex Offender Treatment Provider (LSOTP).   In 1997, I became part of a company providing community counseling services for those involved in the criminal justice system and then in 2005 made my counseling practice a full-time endeavor.  For over 25 years, I have been developing and managing programs and directly helping thousands of clients work through life’s challenges and become healthier.  I am an original Founder and current Managing Owner of Texas Community Supervision Alternatives, LLC www.txsupervision.org since 2015 and a Managing Partner for The Center for Cognitive Education since 2010.  I also have been blessed with the opportunity to be the Community Leader for the Williamson County Transformative Justice diversion program (TJ) www.tj-wc.org for emerging adults aged 17 to 25 since 2023.  I also hold supervision credentials for both LPC-S and LOSTP-S which provide me with the opportunity to help other emerging counseling professionals as they start their life’s work.

My belief is counseling is best provided within a positive, uplifting, strength-based process.   With that said, counseling can be one of the most difficult challenges individuals undergo.  This process does require honesty, commitment and motivation.   I see myself and our clients in a collaborative role in which we work together to create and meet your counseling/life goals. I don’t believe in creating labels, or defining people in such rigid ways, so we avoid those by focusing on your needs and helping you achieve a higher level of life satisfaction.

Regarding my education and training, I earned my MA in Criminal Justice at Southwest Texas State University in 1989 and completed my MA in Community Counseling from Texas State University in 2004.   In 2008, I completed additional training to become a Supervisor for Licensed Professional Counselor Associates in Texas.

Being trained in a multitude of therapeutic modalities allows me to provide the service that best meets your needs.  Sometimes we can address the challenge you’re facing using more focused and brief techniques and it may only take 4-6 sessions, whereas other times it may involve a more detailed process that takes a year or more. My goal and approach is to help you understand new perspectives, gain control of your life, and envision a fulfilling future.

I am enthusiastic about our group practice and the diversity and talent that our helping professionals bring with them.  I am honored to be in the position to have helped establish and manage services that have an immense positive impact within the lives of individuals and within our communities.  I appreciate you taking the time to get to know me and the other counselors with the San Gabriel Counseling group.  We look forward to assisting with your life satisfaction and success.

I earned my Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology from the University of Houston–Victoria in 2017.

I work with adults and adolescents in community, forensic and correctional settings, offering psychological evaluations and counseling that focus on recovery, self-awareness, and building a meaningful life after difficult experiences. My approach blends professional expertise with compassion and a trauma-informed lens, helping clients find stability, confidence, and direction.

In therapy, I believe in working together. We’ll explore the experiences and patterns that have shaped your life, make sense of what feels confusing, bring compassion to the parts of you that carry shame, and find freedom where things have felt stuck. I’ll bring my knowledge and support, and you’ll bring your insight and intuition — together, we’ll create space for real growth and change.

Welcome!

You’ve already taken the brave first step in seeking counseling, and I’m here to support you on your journey. I approach our time together with an understanding that you are the expert in your own life, and I will tailor each session to fit your unique experience. Whether you’re struggling with grief, self-esteem, anxiety, or simply seeking clarity amidst the mental chaos, my goal is to walk alongside you as we work toward healing and growth.

Over the past 10 years, I’ve had the privilege of working with individuals from all walks of life—providing one-on-one support for teens, helping those navigating the criminal justice system, and assisting individuals experiencing mental health crises both in the community and inpatient settings. Life is complex, and I believe in a flexible, person-centered approach, ensuring our work together addresses your specific needs.

Growing up in a military family, I developed a deep appreciation for community, culture, and the importance of leaning on others during times of transition and uncertainty. Life is ever-changing, but we don’t have to weather the storms alone.

When I’m not working, you’ll find me exploring live music around Austin, browsing farmers markets with my dog, or diving into another DIY project.

I’m honored to be part of your healing process and look forward to supporting you on your path to healing.

Greetings, from the San Gabriel Counseling Group!

I am convinced the circumstances we experience and overcome are not only reserved for our own edification and growth, but can also empower us to assist others with triumphing over similar adversities.  This core belief is what drew me into a career as a helping professional.

I earned an MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the CACREP certified Counseling Education Program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where I graduated “summa cum laude."  For over 15 years I have been assisting others with improving their quality of life.  My experience includes: residential and outpatient addiction and substance abuse counseling providing group, individual, and family therapy to adolescents and adults; assessing and treating clients with substance abuse comorbidities; treatment planning; client advocacy; biopsychosocial assessments; psychosexual evaluations; sex offender treatment in individual and group settings; referrals and discharge planning; psychoeducational and process groups; life skills and life transition counseling; mindfulness techniques; and counseling for issues related to anxiety, depression, grief and loss, stress, trauma, and poor self-worth/self-esteem.

Although my clinical orientation is based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, my wide range of experience has afforded me the opportunity to use an eclectic approach to therapy that allows me the flexibility often needed to effectively meet clients’ needs.  I practice from a trauma-informed, strengths-based, culturally competent mindset, and believe that the fundamental principles of empathy, congruence, and unconditional positive regard are essential to developing and maintaining an effective therapeutic relationship that promotes positive outcomes.

I aspire to continue leveraging my education, experience, and professional qualifications to help others find a path toward improved mental health and sustainable lifestyle change.  At this juncture in my life, I desire to give more than receive, to be a blessing more than be blessed, and assist others within my sphere of influence to have a better quality of life through holistically sound mental health.

Many walks of life will experience hardships and be impacted by hurt. We often try to regulate and cope on our own. Sometimes, it may work, and other times we may need a little more help.  Counseling can create a space to address those burdens that weigh you down. Together, we will look at the situation(s) at hand and navigate through those uncomfortable spaces to give them new meanings.

To my readers, moving forward requires creativity, accountability, laughter, and learning. By using an integrative therapy model, we create a flexible approach to treating a range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, grief, interpersonal or intrapersonal issues, relationships, career, and more. My therapeutic approach is grounded in empowering clients to become their own advocates by helping them find meaningful solutions, and is ideally designed to end therapy.

I have been in the mental health field since 2008 and have worked in various settings and with various populations, and I am committed to serving a diverse population. I graduated from Texas A&M University, Central Texas, with a master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2024. I have worked with high-risk adolescents in a juvenile justice system and RTC setting, acute and forensic patients, adolescents and adults struggling with substance use problems, in community settings, crisis, and mandated clients.

I am currently taking clients for virtual appointments. Please contact me to schedule a free 15-minute consultation. Some evening and Sunday availability.
